I know I am really putting my head above the parapet on this one, but in defence of ESP, could I just mention that its research into this subject has been made by a number of very credible person’s, biologist and former Research Fellow of the Royal Society Rupert Sheldrake, and Dean Radin, PhD come to mind as two of the most prominent contemporary advocates, and there many more researchers in this field who have obtained some persuasive results.

I don’t believe in Santa or the tooth fairy, but to dismiss as superstition beliefs that have been held by peoples across many many continents and innumerable decades because they are mostly confined to the ‘irrational’ ‘I’ll-educated’ populist and are shunned by the scientific intelligence could be seen as elitist or at least blindly conformist to the prevailing reductionist Newtonian understanding.

I’m not saying that this phenomena is ‘real’ all I am saying is the true nature of scientific enquire should be one of discovery and open investigation and as contempary quantum theory suggests the possibility of parallel universes and the entanglement of matter separated by great distances, it might not be as far fetched to entertain the possibility of ‘metaphysical’ phenomena.

Dr John E Mack received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School (Cum Laude, 1955) after undergraduate study at Oberlin (Phi Beta Kappa, 1951). He was a graduate of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute and was certified in child and adult psychoanalysis.

The dominant theme of his life's work has been the exploration of how one's perceptions of the world affect one's relationships. He addressed this issue of "world view" on the individual level in his early clinical explorations of dreams, nightmares and teen suicide, and in A Prince of Our Disorder, his biographical study of the life of British officer T. E. Lawrence, for which he received the Pulitzer Prize for Biography in 1977.

"I would never say, yes, there are aliens taking people. [But] I would say there is a compelling powerful phenomenon here that I can't account for in any other way, that's mysterious. Yet I can't know what it is but it seems to me that it invites a deeper, further inquiry." -- John E Mack
