My problem with the studies done that you have quoted is that they make political conservative or liberal to mean the same thing as an actual conservative or liberal in the private sense. The brain operates privately (certainly the reptilian part anyways) , yet the studies classify subjects on what they believe wrt the social sphere.
I am a liberal at heart but a political conservative because after reading a few books on political philosophy I believe that we as civilized people need to force leaders to hang onto certain traditions to protect us from their egos.
I ran in politics as sort of an independent because I believe both parties to be corrupt. I don't believe pure anarchy is practically possible. If government wasn't corrupt I don't know what I would be in the political sense. (what would you do if you lived on Mars ?)
So would I classify myself as a liberal, independent or a conservative for these tests if I was a test subject ?
